Patterns is built on a simple covenant: your private reflections are yours, and the founder never reads them. This page explains what we collect, why, and the promises we keep. It is operated by Patterns Collective, LLC.

The covenant

What you write in an exploration, and the reflections drawn from it, are private to you. No one at Patterns Collective — including the founder — can read your conversations or your personal reflections. When patterns inform the shared Observatory, they do so as words and shapes, stripped of who said them and of anything that could identify you. You are never the product.

What we collect

  • Your account. Your email address, an optional name, and a securely hashed password — handled by our authentication provider, Supabase. We never store your password in readable form.
  • Your words. The messages you write in explorations and the reflections generated from them, so the app can show them back to you over time.
  • Billing references. If you subscribe, a Stripe customer and subscription identifier and your subscription status. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles payment details directly.
  • Basic operation data. The minimal technical information any web app needs to run securely and reliably.

Why we collect it

Only to run the service you asked for: to keep your account, to hold your reflections so you can return to them, to generate the mirror’s responses, and to manage your subscription. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your private conversations for advertising.

Who processes it

We rely on a small number of trusted providers, each handling only what it needs to:

  • Supabase — accounts, authentication, and database.
  • OpenAI — generates the mirror’s reflections from the text of your exploration. This content is sent for processing and, per their terms, is not used to train their models.
  • Stripe — payments and subscription management.
  • Vercel — hosting and delivery of the app.

How long we keep it

We keep your content for as long as your account is open. When you close your account, your profile, explorations, messages, and reflections are deleted. Some records we are required to keep for legal or accounting reasons (such as payment records) are retained only as long as the law requires.

Your choices

You can view and edit your reflections in the app, and you can close your account at any time to remove your content. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these, or to ask a question, write to hello@patterns.co and we will help.

Security

Access to your data is protected at the database level so that each person can reach only their own rows, passwords are hashed, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your words with the care the covenant demands.

Children

Patterns is for adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will let you know. For anything privacy-related, reach us at hello@patterns.co.
